A Nissan FM band expander is a small electronic device used in imported Japanese Nissan vehicles to make the factory radio receive local FM stations outside Japan. Japanese radios normally operate on a narrower FM range (about 76–90 MHz), while many countries use 87.5–108 MHz. The band expander connects between the car’s antenna and the radio unit. It shifts radio frequencies down by a set amount (usually 10 MHz, 12 MHz, 14 MHz, or 18 MHz) so the Nissan stereo can tune into local stations. For example: To hear 98.7 FM, you may tune the radio to 88.7 FM if using a 10 MHz expander.
